ABOUT VANITA MUDGIL

Dr. Vanita Mudgil graduated and received her dental degree from New York University. She then went on to complete an additional one year general practice residency program at Mount SInai Hospital before returning to NYU for her speciality training. After an extensive three year specialty program in implants and periodontics Dr. Mudgil received her Diplomate status. She is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.

Dr. Mudgil has been practicing dentistry since 1999 and recently relocated to Long Island, where she grew up. She opened a brand new state of the art dental practice and shares office space with her husband, a dermatologist.

She maintains the highest standards and keeps up to date in her profession. Dr. Mudgil enjoys educating future dentists and currently maintains a faculty position at Northwell Health. She is an active member in the New York State Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontics, North East Society of Periodontists and Nassau County Dental Association.

She is a thoughtful, gentle and experienced clinician and uses her expertise to care for each individual in order to improve one's overall health, function and smile.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants are a permanent replacement for a lost tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason. Most people are candidates for implants and Dr. Mudgil will be able to access whether or not an implant is a good treatment option for you.
GUM SURGERY

Osseous surgery is a minor surgical procedure, done when you have a diseased pocket around a tooth (or teeth) that has not responded to other treatments. In some areas of the mouth we may be able to add bone and restore your natural smile. It is done in an effort to retain the tooth and create an environment that is easier to clean and keep healthy.
CROWN LENGTHENING

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that increases the length of a tooth’s crown. It is required when a tooth is fractured or has a carious lesion below the gum line. It is done prior to crown fabrication so that the general dentist can access sound tooth structure.

Crown lengthening can also be performed if you feel you have a “gummy smile”. Dr. Mudgil can reshape the gum line and improve the aesthetics of your smile by exposing more of your teeth.
GUM GRAFTING

Gum grafting is indicated when the tissue surrounding your teeth has receded and more of the root is exposed to the oral cavity. Gum recession is common and can cause sensitivity and alter the esthetics of your smile.

To repair the damage Dr. Mudgil can perform a minor surgical procedure that correct an altered gum line and restore your natural smile and eliminate any sensitivity.
EXTRACTION

Teeth may sometimes need to be extracted because of severe dental caries, trauma, periodontal disease or malpositioning of the tooth. When a tooth is extracted the underlying bone degenerates and Dr. Mudgil may want to add a bone substitute to preserve the bone and maintain the integrity of the site.

There are many different type of tooth replacements you can have after a dental extraction and Dr. Mudgil will be able to go over all options prior to the procedure.
SCALING & ROOT PLANING

Scaling and Root planing is a nonsurgical periodontal procedure in which plaque and calculus are removed from your teeth and eliminates any inflammation causing detriment to your periodontal tissues. Sometimes the inflammation and extent of build up is so severe osseous surgery is indicated to further remove etiologic agents causing disease.
SINUS AUGMENTATION

Maxillary Sinus floor augmentation is a surgical procedure in the posterior maxillary sites of the jaw. When teeth are extracted in this area the sinus floor tends to occupy this space which makes dental implant placement impossible. In this procedure, Dr. Mudgil carefully lifts the sinus and adds a bone substitute which will enable her to place a long lasting dental implant in strong bone.
NITROUS OXIDE

Nitrous Oxide also known as laughing gas is a safe and effective sedative that helps you relax during dental treatment. It is not intended to put you to sleep and you will be able to hear and respond to any requests. Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide are completely reversible and wear off as soon as the mask is removed.

INSURANCE & PAYMENT

Dr Mudgil is in network with most dental PPO plans. We will submit all treatment estimates to your insurance company to access any out of pocket expense prior to beginning treatment.
